Discover the newest features of InDesign
Only months ago they delivered their inaugural generative AI capability in Adobe InDesign with Text to Image (beta). Today, they build and expand upon this innovation by introducing Generative Expand (beta) their newest generative AI feature in InDesign designed to inspire you while streamlining your workflow.
In this article, I will demonstrate how to take full advantage of a new InDesign feature that allows you to expand the frame content in context via Generative Expand directly within Adobe® InDesign and also peek at some other productivity-enhancing capabilities.
Generative Expand (beta)
Generative Expand (beta), powered by Adobe Firefly, is a time-saving generative AI tool for designers. This streamlines your workflow as it allows you to stretch your current images out with the time that is needed for them to fill up a layout.
An InDesign document Arrangement is complex. The most common design problem that you come across is to change the image placement and/or its scale in the layout. Enter the media query, which essentially tells a website how to rearrange its elements (in this case — an image), given certain conditions. And without one, that means you have no control over it from just using browser width changes as a way of redesigning and some images can start breaking when they get bigger. Some will auto expand with but others won't do so nicely leading straight into then scaling.: This includes sourcing new or going in there yourself to adjust size / manually make wider fitting for the space!
Without leaving InDesign, using Generative Expand makes it considerably faster and easier to produce new material to cover the vacant space in the desired frame. Choose an image frame, then click Generate to make the image fit the frame if it doesn't fit. Or type a text prompt that instructs you on how to enlarge the image and add the background you want.
